WASHINGTON — James T. “Jim” Valentine, Sr., 75, of Washington died at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
Born Sept. 6, 1938, in Battle Creek, Mich., to Woodrow and Dorothy Hayes Parris, he married Margaret Tate on July 2, 1960, in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are children, Annette Catton of Washington, Jackie (Mike) Hendrick of Antioch, and Jim (Debra) Valentine Jr. of Washington; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; and siblings, Raymond (Sue) Valentine of Michigan, Marge Parris of California, Diane (John) Swierenga of Wheaton, Dave (Bobbie) Parris of Florida, and Robert (Michelle) Parris of California; and step-mother, Maryann Parris of Missouri.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Woodrow Parris Jr.; and a granddaughter.
He attended Peoria schools and graduated from Woodruff High School.
He served in the National Guard.
He worked at Keystone Steel & Wire in Bartonville in the wire mill. He later worked in the computer department and retired as a Senior Systems Analyst in 2001, after 43 years of service.
Funeral services were held Feb. 22 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington.
Visitation was prior to the service at the funeral home. The Rev. Steve Graffis officiated. Cremation rites were accorded following ceremonies.
