WASHINGTON—Betty J. Summer, 78, of Washington, died at 2:05 p.m., Friday, May 24, 2013, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria.
Born on Feb. 10, 1935, in Washington to Loren and Rachel (Bond) Guth, she married John Summer Sept. 19 1953, in Washington. He died Aug. 8, 1997.
Surviving are one daughter, Debra (Kevin) Wade of Washington; one son, Terry Summer of Washington; one sister, Beverly (Roger) Wear of Morton: two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
She worked for Foster & Gallagher and K-Mart prior to her retirement.
She was an active member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Washington where she sang in the church choir for many years.
She was also a long time member of Hopewell Grange in Washington as well as being active in the National Grange, Illinois State Grange and the Tri-County Pomona Grange.
She served as an Executive Committee member in the Illinois State Grange as well as being a former Ceres. She had served many years as secretary and held other offices as well.
She also was in the Ladies Bowling League at Landmark Lanes in Peoria.
She was a charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Pekin and had been a member also of the Clover Leaf Chapter of Order of Eastern Star, the Daughters of the Nile and AARP.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington and the Rev. Dick Hanson officiated. Burial followed in Union Cemetery, north of Washington.
Visitation was Monday at the funeral home and prior to services on Tuesday.
