Two veterans, two former assistants and one newcomer were voted to travel baseball head coaching positions this month in an announcement by Washington Recreation Association baseball board president Lance Escue.

Brad Stewart, who guided the 8-and-under Farm club this past summer, moves up to coach the 9-U team in 2013 while on the other end of the age groups, Joe Dalfonso will return to coach the 14-U HOI Pony squad after posting a 26-25-2 record this year.

In between those two, Jeff Jones and Max Coleman, two former assistants on various WRA levels, will coach the 10-U and 11-U teams, respectively.

Matt Stone rounds out the head coach slate by taking the 12-U team next year.

"Despite not having anyone truly step forward for the 8-and-under group, we feel this is a good mix of coaches who will continue to upgrade our travel program," said Escue. "It's always nice to have people serve as assistants first before taking on this responsibility because the job description grows in detail every year."

With the coaching staffs intact, fall tryout times have been announced and are as follows with all tryouts taking place at Central Grade School:

9-U — 3 to 5 p.m. both days Oct. 7 and 14 on field No. 4.

10-U — 1 to 3 p.m. both days Oct. 7 and 14 on field No. 4.

11-U — 3 to 5 p.m. both days Oct. 7 and 14 on field No. 6.

12-U — 1 to 3 p.m. both days Oct. 7 and 14 on field No. 6.

HOI Pony and Suburban — 10 a.m. to noon both days Oct. 13 and 20 on field No. 5.

Anyone wishing to try out for HOI Pony (40-50 game schedule with five tournaments) and/or Suburban (fewer games, fewer tournaments) will do so at the same time this year as opposed to separate tryouts in the past.

Both teams will be chosen on the same two weekends.

Players are urged to contact the respective coaches prior to tryout dates for paperwork and questions.
