The Washington boys tennis team moved into third place in the Mid-Illini Conference.

A 7-2 win April 21 vs. Limestone advanced the Panthers to 3-2, a half-game better than Pekin.

Washington closed out its league dual campaign Tuesday with a 9-0 loss to first-place Metamora.

Against the Rockets, the Panthers were perfect in the doubles format.

Bryan Kinas and Brett Grimes were 6-1, 6-2 winners in the first position, while Kody Dexheimer and Paul Born prevailed, 6-0, 6-3.

Josh Urban and Ed Foster also won in straight sets from the third slot, 6-3, 6-1.

Singles victors were: No. 1 Kinas (6-1, 6-0), No. 3 Dexheimer (6-1, 6-2), No. 4 Born (7-6, [7-4], 6-1) and No. 6 Brian Flexer (6-4, 6-0).

The Panthers were fifth Saturday in an eight-team field with 19 points.

Among the highlights for Washington was a title in No. 1 doubles after defeating an East Moline duo in the final, 6-3, 7-6.

Pekin, one of four M-I teams present, edged the host Silver Streaks for the team championship.
