The body of a woman found on a central Arkansas farm in March has been identified as that of a former Washington woman.

Carissa E. Downey, 23, of Cabot, Ark., was pronounced dead on March 20, 2011, in Bald Knob, Ark., after her remains were found in a garbage bag in a farm field on Dripping Springs Road in White County.

The decomposition of the body made visual identification impossible. Authorities sent the body to the state forensics lab, where DNA confirmed it was the body of Downey.

White County Sheriff's Department Detective Sgt. Phillip Miller said investigators are not releasing the cause of death.

The investigation has led police to a person of interest who is currently being held in the Faulkner County Jail on an unrelated charge, said Miller. He said the person of interest is not related to Downey.

Miller said Downey was reported missing by her father in late March.

The death is being investigated as a homicide by the Cabot Police Department, the Faulkner County Sheriff's Department, the White County Sheriff's Department and the Lonoke County Sheriff's Department.

Downey was a graduate of Washington Community High School.
