The Beverly Manor girls track and field team is off to a great start this season.

There are several returnees from last year’s team in seventh and eighth grade and a new roster for the sixth-grade athletes.

Girls track participants include: eighth graders — Taylor Barker, Chelsea Lathrom, Kirstyn Ellis, Madison Sherwood, Tristin Terrell and Ashley Waldon.

Seventh graders — Kayla Ford, Victoria Gebhart, Kasey Miller, Justice Page and Kayla Stark.

Sixth graders — Taryn Carpenter, Hallie Eichelkraut, Marissa Lang, Sydney Larson, Brittany Lowrance, Samantha Myers, Courtney Nofsinger, Ryan Schroff and Samantha Wallis.  Managers are: Cheyanne Kemp-Stear, Madison Lightbody and Danielle Mohr.

Despite some early-season injuries, the team is coming back and ready to tackle the end-of-the-season meets.

Some of the major meets coming up are listed below.

• Big school conference meet, April 28, Washington Community High School track

• Class A Tazewell County meet, April 29, WCHS track

• Sectional meet, May 7, Deland Weldon (at Ridgeview High School)

• City meet, May 10, WCHS track

• Illinois Elementary School Association state meet for qualifiers – May 13-14, EastSide Centre.

Last year’s group of girls finished the season strong with many personal records.

Current WCHS freshman Ashley Knott’s accomplishments went unrecognized last year.

At the beginning of the season last year, Ashley came out to run the mile with her finishing time in the low six-minute range.

Every meet, she continued taking seconds off of her time, and Knott qualified for the IESA state meet with a 5:41 in the sectional.

At the state meet, Knott ran a time of 5:45.8, coming in 22nd place out of 48 runners. Her time also shattered the school record previously set by F. Edwards in 1988 with a time of 6:33.
