The Washington girls soccer team gave host Pekin a battle April 12.

The Lady Panthers lost a 3-1 Mid-Illini Conference decision to the squad that is as good as any in the area outside Morton and Notre Dame.

Washington (4-3, 1-2) had a lead at halftime at Coal Miners’ Park thanks to an Ari Mata goal assisted by Devon McDaniel.

Pekin tied it about five minutes after intermission, then went ahead to stay at 62:42.

Olivia Schoch made 17 saves as the Lady Panther goalkeeper.

Washington fell to seventh place in the conference after a 7-0 home loss Tuesday to Morton.
