WASHINGTON — Mario F. “Smokey” Spatafore, 88, of Washington died at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. 



 

WASHINGTON — Mario F. “Smokey” Spatafore, 88, of Washington died at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. 

Born March 19, 1923, in Chicago to Leonardo and Vincenza Perroni Spatafore, he married Jennie Rita Pentimone Oct. 19, 1946, in Chicago. She survives.

Also surviving are three children, Jean (Robert) Jones of Washington, Stephen Spatafore and Michael (Lisa) Spatafore, all of Thornton, Colo.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, two brothers and one sister.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He worked at Caterpillar Tractor Co. as a research experimental mechanic for 31 years, retiring in 1985, and was a member of United Auto Workers Local No. 974.

He also was a member of American Legion Post No. 100 in Washington. 

Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington is assisting the family.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in rural Morton. 

Military rites will be conducted by the United States Air Force and the Tazewell Military Rites Team.
