The Washington softball team’s late charge March 22 did not quite generate a season-opening win.

Bloomington pulled out a 5-4 victory in eight innings after an exciting finish to the non-conference contest.

The Lady Panthers trailed 3-0 through fifth innings before drawing a run closer in the sixth.

Washington shocked the Purple Raiders with three runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead before the home team answered in its half.

Bloomington registered the game-winning tally in the eighth inning.

Katie Megyesi and Cassie Reed provided two hits and an RBI apiece for Washington.

Natalie Hamilton knocked in two runs for the guests. Megyesi and Sarah Misselhorn both doubled.

Paige Ely took the loss. She walked four and fanned one going the distance.

New dates: Washington now will play East Moline in a twin bill Saturday at Jan Smith Field, one week after the original contests were postponed.

Williamsville defeated the Lady Panthers Tuesday, 8-3, in the home opener for Washington (0-2).
