The Washington wrestling team won three times Dec. 22 in a quadrangular at Springfield Lanphier.

The Panthers, who were boosted that morning to No. 6 in the Illinois Matmen Class 2A state rankings, routed Notre Dame (52-10) and the Lions (61-9), while squeaking out a 37-36 victory in a tiebreaker over Chatham Glenwood.

Washington lost only two matches apiece against the Irish and Lanphier.

Austin Wileman, Travis Rice, Trevor Mileur, Brandon Rice, Colton Gladwell, Mason Wright and Dylan Reel all won both times against those foes. Gladwell had two pins.

Wyatt Frautschi, Jacob Lamb, Dan Massengill, Lane Weaver, Trevor Craig, Keil Dossett and Jesse Filson also were victorious for the Panthers.

Washington won eight times against the Titans, but the match was even at 36 until the Panthers were awarded the go-ahead point.

Rankings: Besides the team’s top-10 status, several wrestlers are listed individually as well by Illinois Matmen.

Reel continues to hold down the No. 1 slot in 160 pounds in the Dec. 28 poll.

Wright is third in 152, while Brandon Rice is fourth in 135.

Derek McIntosh is ninth in 125, one slot higher than Washington teammate Gladwell (140).

Mileur (130) and Massengill (171) are honorable mention.
