The Lady Panthers held on for a 39-37 Mid-Illini Conference victory over a Dragons squad looking for its first positive decision of 2010-11.

Katie Megyesi of Washington dropped in a game-high 14 points.

The Lady Panthers led 16-8 after one quarter at Torry Gymnasium before seeing their advantage reduced to one point entering the fourth.

Emily Heuermann chipped in seven points, Taylor Kuykendall six and Paige Marchini five for the home team.

Kelsi Rogers had a team-high 11 points for Pekin.

The Lady Panthers could not sustain a first-quarter lead Saturday in a road loss to the conference co-leader.

Washington (3-7, 2-2) was ahead 13-12 after eight minutes before Morton used a 28-12 margin in the second and third quarters to pull away.

Heuermann’s 12 points were a team-high figure. She made a pair of three-pointers and was 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.

Megyesi had seven points and Lauren Dwyer six for the guests.

Caitlyn Vandermeer had 13 points for Morton, which ran its winning streak to six games.

Holiday hoops: Washington faces Lincoln at 11:15 a.m. and East St. Louis at 2:45 p.m. Monday in Pool B play on the first day of the Manual Holiday Tournament.

The Lady Panthers are 18-14 the last eight years at Manual.
