The Illinois Reagan Centennial Commission, Illinois Press Association and the Illinois Association of Regional Superintendents of Schools announce the Poetry for the President contest open to all K-12 students.


The Illinois Reagan Centennial Commission, Illinois Press Association and the Illinois Association of Regional Superintendents of Schools announce the Poetry for the President contest open to all K-12 students.

Join a poetry contest highlighting the life and work of President Ronald Reagan.

Students will compete in elementary, middle school or high school division. Winners of the local competition will be forwarded to the area-wide competition. Winners of the area-wide competition will receive a $50 gift certificate to Barnes and Noble and be forwarded to the state-wide competition.

First and second place winners statewide will attend an award ceremony at the Lincoln Presidential Library in Springfield on April 8 and be awarded an iPad from the Illinois Press Association. Teachers of the statewide winners will receive a prize valued at $50.

Special guest judge Illinois Poet Laureate Kevin Stein will help with the contest.

Submit poem to Regional Office of Education or Intermediate Service Center by Jan. 15, 2011. Include grade division, name, age, grade, parent's names, address, phone, e-mail, teacher, school name and city. Sign and date the form and include the poem title.
