Two Washington residents were charged with unlawful sale of alcohol to a minor  during Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement surveys by the Illinois State Police at various local establishments Oct. 22.


Two Washington residents were charged with unlawful sale of alcohol to a minor  during Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement surveys by the Illinois State Police at various local establishments Oct. 22.

Julie D. Mendell, 23, and Zachary D. West, 18, were arrested during the survey.

Mobil, 2279 Washington Road, Washington; and Kroger, 20 Cherry Tree Shopping Center, Washington, were among the businesses alleged to have sold alcoholic beverages to minors.

The purpose of the survey is to determine which businesses may be selling alcohol to minors (younger than 21 years old).

Mendell and West were issued a notice to appear in Tazewell County court and released.

Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement surveys are funded through a grant from  the United  States  Department  of  Transportation and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and are part of the “You Drink and Drive, You Lose” campaign.

The  grant is administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety.
