The Washington boys and girls cross country teams participated in the gigantic Richard Spring Invitational Saturday.

The girls placed 37th out of 42 teams and the boys were 48th out of 54 in a three-mile race Notre Dame hosted at Detweiller Park.

Carolyn Riedel led the Lady Panthers with a 186th-place standing, while the Panther boys were paced by Andrew McGraw, who was 252nd.

Palatine won both of the team championships over runners-up Orland Park Sandburg (boys) and Elmhurst York (girls).

There were 300-500 runners in each of six races contested. The Washington frosh/soph boys were 35th out of 37 teams.

Earlier in the week, the boys and girls teams lost to Metamora and host East Peoria in a 2.95-mile double dual at Illinois Central College.
