Jacob Wilcosky will continue in a sport in which he has enjoyed a longtime association.

The recent Washington Community High School graduate signed his Letter of Intent May 7 to attend Aurora University and play men’s soccer for the Spartans.

Wilcosky said he will be a defender for Aurora and can play on either side.

The former Panther has played soccer for 14 years, including a three-year stint in England.

“I never thought about what it would be like not to play,” Wilcosky said.

To prepare for the move to NCAA Division III athletics, Wilcosky will get in shape by working from a fitness packet the coaching staff compiled.

In 2006, Aurora earned its first NCAA Tournament berth under head coach Pete Watkins, who has built a solid foundation.

Wilcosky was selected last fall to the annual Senior All-Star game at Peoria Stadium.

He said after a tour of the campus that he liked the coaches and the players in the program. Wilcosky knew since late December where he wanted to go.

Wilcosky plans to major in accounting.
